Orlando Smash the Cake Photographer

One of the most special parts of being a photographer is having the opportunity to watch families grow and document the different chapters of their stories.

About a year ago, I first met this sweet family when they invited me into their home to photograph their baby girl’s newborn session. This time, I had the joy of returning to their home for another beautiful milestone: celebrating her first birthday with a Smash the Cake session.

For this celebration, her parents chose a simple, clean, and timeless setup — and I absolutely loved their vision.

Instead of an elaborate theme with lots of decorations, we kept the styling minimal and intentional. The simplicity of the setup allowed all the attention to stay exactly where it belonged: on their beautiful little girl.

And she absolutely loved the experience!

From discovering the cake to getting her little hands into it, every reaction was genuine and full of personality. Her smiles, curiosity, and adorable expressions made the session so much fun to photograph.

Sometimes, when we think about first birthday photography, we imagine that a Smash the Cake session needs a large, elaborate setup to feel special. But this session was a beautiful reminder that simple can be just as meaningful. With fewer distractions in the background, the focus stays on your baby’s expressions, personality, and all those little details you want to remember from this stage.

For me, there was also something incredibly special about photographing this little girl again. The first time I met her, she was a tiny newborn. One year later, I returned to the same family’s home to photograph a happy, curious little girl celebrating her first birthday.

Being invited back by families I have photographed before means so much to me. It is such an honor to know that they trust me to document another important chapter in their lives.
